I have a Dial-Up connection which reports me connected at 115,200 bps, but it still seems slow.

TweakMASTER Knowledge Base article KB0024

If your DUN "Connected To" box reads an abnormally high speed such as 115,200 bps, this is unfortunately not the connection speed to your ISP. This is reporting your modem's internal connect speed to your computer or "port speed"

If you have a Hayes compatible Modem, to make the computer report your modem carrier speed and not your port speed, try this:

  • In Control Panel open the Modems Applet. Highlight your modem and click on "properties" Under the Connection tab, hit the "Advanced" button/
  • try adding W1 or W2 in the extra settings in Control Panel's > modem > properties > Connection > Advanced.
  • If it doesn't work put S95W1 or S95W2. If those don't work, another suggestion is to try using this string: "ATW2&W". If that doesn't work then adding "S95=1" was suggested by Hayes Technical Support as the way to get it to report the true carrier speed.

One of these suggestions should work... good luck!
