How do I uninstall TweakMASTER if I don't want it after I try it?

TweakMASTER Knowledge Base article KB0049

If you wish to uninstall TweakMASTER simply use the uninstall entry on the Programs Menu accessible from the Start Button on your taskbar. Or you can also use Add/Remove Programs in the Windows Control Panel. This is standard procedure for any Windows software. This will immediately uninstall all of TweakMASTER from your system except a couple files in the TweakMASTER folder.

After uninstallation is complete, and you reboot your computer, those files should also be automatically deleted from your system. If not you can delete them manually from the TweakMASTER folder in Windows Explorer. Just delete the folder and everything that's left in there.

Uninstalling TweakMASTER will restore all your system settings to exactly the way they were when you installed it. Obviously any speed benefits or convenient features you gained with TweakMASTER will be erased upon uninstallation. Those are only yours to keep when you register the software.

Until you uninstall it from your system it will keep 'reminding' you to register. That is by design.

If you have made the mistake of deleting the software without properly uninstalling it, you will continue to get the registration reminder notices indefinitely. You should NEVER remove any program from your system without properly uninstalling it as described... this is asking for trouble. If you have done so, please reinstall the program from http://www.tweakmaster.com/, reset your system to windows defaults to be safe and then uninstall properly.

You must also NOT use a third-party uninstaller. Only the program's own uninstall or Windows Add/Remove programs will restore your settings. If you used a third party uninstaller, then it is impossible to return your computer to the settings it had when you first installed TweakMASTER as that information has been lost. You can, however, reinstall TweakMASTER and use the "Windows Default" button on the Advanced Optimization screen. That will at least restore your system settings to Windows default, and that should work in most cases. If you had some proprietary settings peculiar to your ISP, you will have to contact them to get those settings again.

You can then uninstall again using the recommended method above and this will eliminate all aspects of TweakMASTER from your system.

One issue is the hosts file. If you enabled TweakMASTER's DNS Accelerator, it will have created a "HOSTS" file which contains current IP addresses for sites you normally visit. This speeds up visiting those sites again, BUT it will certainly cause problems if not updated regularly. Here again if you uninstall properly, the process will disable the HOSTS file, but if you did it incorrectly, the hosts file will remain and will certainly cause you problems at some point. Therefore you would need to go to C:\Windows which is normally where it resides (or use Find/Search from the start menu) and locate a file called "hosts" with no extension. You can open this file in notepad if you wish, but you should simply delete it if you have uninstalled TweakMASTER from your system.

There have also been occasional reports where somehow users get various TweakMASTER shortcuts into their Windows startup group. We really have no idea how those get in there... it seems to be due to some kind of user error during the installation process. You can check there by going to the Windows Start Button on your taskbar, and accessing the Programs Menu|Startup folder. If you have any TweakMASTER related shortcuts there, simply delete them. Those would cause certain messages as Windows loads. TweakMASTER makes no entries in the startup group by default.
